J. Steven Lamperti is working on the Tales of Liamec, an award-winning series of fantasy novels. So far, books in the series have won a red ribbon from the Wishing Shelf Book awards, a Royal Dragonfly and a Purple Dragonfly Book award, and a five-star medal from the Reader’s Favorite website. By the Sea was a finalist in the 2021 Best Book Awards. The BookLife Prize website described The Wolf’s Tooth as “A gripping read that is hard to put down.” A former application developer who has abandoned the world of bits and bytes for a career in writing, he and his wife live in California near their three daughters.

Endymion and the Wee Folk

The latest Tale of Liamec, Endymion and the Wee Folk, is nearing completion—well, the first draft, anyway! In fact, I expect to be writing the climax within the next few weeks.

I’m a little worried about our hero, Endymion. He is, after all, just a simple shepherd lad, with little knowledge of the wider world, and the forces threatening his quiet village of Woolfold in the Dell may be more than he can handle. That said, he does have Lily—a young Wee Folk woman—at his side, and I have a feeling things will turn out all right in the end.

Look for the release of Endymion and the Wee Folk before the end of the year.

What inspired Sunshine Over Hero?

A few voices from The Channeler Trilogy simply refused to stay quiet—Sunshine, Raphael, and their companions Iggy and Cutter all had more to say. This story gave them a new stage.

I was also inspired by Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books. I hoped to weave in a touch of his humor—not quite his voice, perhaps, but something gently absurd and a bit wry in my own way.

And then there’s the vampire. I set out to write a vampire tale, but Viktor had other ideas. He’s not your usual brooding immortal, and he didn’t let the story follow the rules.

In the end, Sunshine Over Hero blends humor, friendship, and fangs in a standalone tale that also threads into The Channeler Trilogy and the wider world of Liamec.

Liamec Earthquake!

The kingdom of Liamec is shaking. I have come to the realization that the last two books of the tales of Liamec are out of order! I wrote the Pirates of Liamec before Sunshine over Hero, and until now they have been listed that way in the tales series order. However, it’s clear to me, and the careful reader, that the events in the Pirates occur after the events in Sunshine over Hero, so I will be reordering the official order.

This won’t have much of an effect on existing readers, but it will help those new readers that are going through the series for the first time. The events in Sunshine over Hero occur shortly after the end of Death & Dragon, so the best time to read it is right after reading that book.

Inspiration for Moon & Shadow

The inspiration for Moon & Shadow came during an evening walk. The full moon hung low on the horizon — so close it felt like you could reach out and touch it. So I imagined someone doing exactly that. Not just touching it, but pulling it down from the sky.

The name Sebastian came from Lloyd Alexander’s The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian, a favorite from my youth. With that first image, and that name, the earliest chapters fell into place. At the time, I had no idea that a single act — pulling the moon from the sky — would grow into the entire magical kingdom of Liamec, now spanning seven books and counting.

Beginnings

I’m told I have to have a website, and I’m told I have to have a blog on that website. So, here it is. I will write brilliant, witty stuff on here. I can post old essays I wrote for my family newsletter, columns I wrote and submitted to the funny times, and other amazingly amusing material.

I have an idea for a column about how I am the most amazingly humble person in the world, and how my humility surpasses that of anyone who came before me. But, I’m too humble to have written it yet.
